As the plenary session took place yesterday, in which the MEPs spoke about the point of including the right to abortion in the Charter of Fundamental Rights, In anticipation of a vote in the plenary session next April, PMNews is seeking questions and concerns from interested parties. We are particularly interested in understanding whether individuals agree or plan to vote in favor or against the upcoming decision by MEPs therefore PMNews decided to write an email with a series of questions to all local parties ,NGOs, current and prospective MEPs and heads of state.
PMNews Malta, an online newspaper in the Mediterranean island nation, has taken a proactive step in addressing a pressing issue: the potential inclusion of the right to abortion in the Charter of Fundamental Rights. In an email sent to heads of parties, NGOs, current MEPs, and prospective MEPs, PMNews Malta has sought clarity on where stakeholders stand regarding this contentious issue.
The debate surrounding abortion rights is one of the most polarizing and sensitive topics in contemporary society, invoking discussions on morality, ethics, human rights, and the role of government in regulating personal choices. With the European Union being a union of diverse member states with varying cultural, religious, and social perspectives, the issue of abortion rights has naturally become a subject of scrutiny and debate within the EU institutions.
The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union enshrines a range of civil, political, economic, and social rights, serving as a cornerstone of EU law. However, the absence of explicit language concerning abortion rights has led to discrepancies in interpretation and application across member states. This has resulted in a patchwork of laws and regulations regarding abortion access and legality throughout the EU.
PMNews Malta’s decision to reach out to key stakeholders reflects a commitment to fostering informed discourse and transparency on this critical issue. By posing targeted questions to political leaders, representatives of civil society, and individuals aspiring to serve as Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), PMNews Malta seeks to shed light on the diverse perspectives and policy positions regarding the potential inclusion of abortion rights in the Charter of Fundamental Rights.
The email sent by PMNews Malta contains questions aimed at getting clear answers from the recipient.
Additionally, we are publishing the names of prospective MEPs, current MEPs, parties, NGOs, as well as party leaders to whom we have sent the email together with PMNEWS EMAIL.
We will also publish all the exact answers as soon as we receive them.
