Mosta vandalic permit: “Our political system has systematically rewarded unsustainable development projects and rarely found a balance which favours the environment”
Arnold Cassola reacts to news of massive supermarket development on archaeological sites in Mosta.
“Our political system, hijacked as it has by the developers’ lobby, has created a situation whereby it is considered normal for a permit to be granted for a massive supermarket to be built on important archaeological remains such as catacombs and cart ruts. Instead of appreciating the value of these priceless remains from Malta’s past, we are ready to sacrifice them to build yet another supermarket in an area already overflowing with such development.”- Arnold Cassola
Arnold Cassola, an independent candidate for the 10th and 11th District, was reacting to the news of an application for a new massive supermarket in Mosta, just a few metres from another supermarket. The application is proposing that important archaeological remains found on site are hidden within the car park of the development.
Despite all the rhetoric spouted by politicians from both the PL and the PN that our country should find a balance between development and the safeguarding of the environment, time and time again the decks are always stacked against the environment. “Our political system has systematically rewarded unsustainable development projects and rarely found a balance which favours the environment, “ said Cassola.
Every day we see examples of such unsustainable development projects. In a county the size of Malta the situation can only get worse unless we all work together to change the system.
“ Next Saturday is a unique chance to start on the road to shifting the stacks in favour of the environment. If we want to save our natural environment and historical heritage, we need to vote for this.
A vote for independent and third-party candidates who have consistently worked to save our rapidly vanishing environment would send a strong message of change and hope which this country so badly needs.” states Cassola.
