Depression – a silent killer.

A human being is complete when having three main elements combined, specifically the mind, body, and soul. All are very important as these function different yet together so that the person could live a better life.
Without a doubt, the mind plays a significant role as it controls the major parts of the body and reflects on the soul. This said we can agree that eventually, we are the mind as it forms our personality. What I mean is that if we remove a brain that belongs to Mr x and replace it with that of Mr y, the latter will eventually become Mr x with the difference between flesh and bone (the body).
The mind is so powerful and complex but can still be harmed by disease, illness, and psychological issues.
Everyone experiences stress in life and if not administered properly, it will turn to anxiety and eventually depression.
Although disease and illness can cause considerable damage to the brain, depression is the silent killer.
The person will feel helpless and without motivation. Life becomes so lonely and sadness overwhelms every day.
At times, nothing matters, emotions are lost, and sleeping an entire day becomes the alternative to overeating and even worse to self-harm.
Depression can drive a person to commit suicide as s/he cannot take it any longer. It nibbles the will to do things and live a normal life…it is like an evil curse.
People will notice the difference in the person effected and at times can inflict more damage than helping out most often because of their lack of responsibility, understanding, and awareness of the situation.

You will find people saying ‘int trid tkun’, ‘you have to help yourself, ‘stand up, ‘move on ‘ and other stuff which although intended to motivate, most often pulls the depressed even further down.
If a car needs a good engine to drive on, how the heck can it even move if this essential component is fuc*d up??
As previously stated YOU are mainly your mind, so if it is not functioning well, YOU cannot make yourself feel better unless something happens from the ‘outside’ that is strong enough to put YOU back on track.
The person most often tends to seek help from mental health professionals or entities offering services tended to help in such situations.
Unfortunately, there are cases where the patient becomes like some others. part of the routine job and an experiment so as for the psychiatrist can find the right dosage of medicine that may ease the suffering. That person will turn to become just a number, swallowing pills with hideous side effects, waiting for the next appointment for his/her medication to increase, decrease, or change, or altogether without a real comforting solution whatsoever. I saw many patients act like zombies, while others suffered collateral health issues.
I am not saying that seeking medical help is wrong, in fact, it would be one of the best solutions, but sometimes you tend to be a lucky person if you meet the right health professional prescribing the right medicine and correct dosage. I believe that if taken more seriously and more attention is focused on mental health, the outcome of a better cure will be assured.
Whilst thanking all those mental health specialists, practitioners, and organisations that put a sensitive humane effort and care to support and even save the lives of these patients, other remedies can be essential during the healing process and maintenance.

Such remedies may include exercise, sport, yoga, Tai Chi, selective martial arts, meditation, natural herbs, music, and starting a hobby amongst other activities that make the person feel his/her worth, understand, and learn how to tackle stress while living a healthy life.
A point to mention which is also as much as important, the support of the family and trusted friends will eventually help the person to overcome his pain and appreciate once more the beauty of life.
We all have the right to live happily and peacefully. The world was created for ALL of us and thus we need to respect others.
Most often stress is caused because of someone else’s negligence, behavior or attitude…. try not to be that someone else.
