Do not judge the book by the cover- A.Heart
It’s in human nature that persons judge others or things because of appearances, actions or beliefs. Such judgement is quite often influenced by the character, knowledge, experience and thoughts of the critic.
A simple example when it comes to an object may be when having the same knife presented to two different people whereas one is a chef and the other is a killer. Although the same knife, in the eyes of the chef, would be seen as a perfect utensil in the kitchen, while as regards the killer, would surely think of it as a perfect weapon.
However, it also transpires that people have a common opinion on basic straightforward things. If a thing is white in the norm, no one can say that it is green….. Yet in another situation … One would say it is very wrong to see someone shooting a dog for example. Most probably, that person will be tagged as brutal or inhuman….but what if that dog turns out to be that beast that regularly attacks children and this time wounded his young defenceless kid 5 minutes before the shooting?
What I mean is that people most often judge what they instantly see before knowing the facts or evaluating the whole picture. From lots of other situations, some debatable circumstances may also be mentioned.
For example, we all know that killing is not justified, but what if the shooter is a soldier executing orders, abiding by his duties while defending his country?
Many would see a prostitute as a bad woman belonging to the low class in society. What if she has no other option but to sacrifice herself to survive or maintain her child since she cannot find another job and has no one or no money to depend on?
Would you help a beggar asking for money? Do you think that maybe he is using it for drugs or that he should earn cash by finding himself a job? Can you at least consider that he may have a medical condition that impedes his capabilities?
What if you see someone always shouting at people, reserved, difficult to talk to, never smiles…. would you label him/her to be a savage being without a heart, or would you also consider the possibility of him/her having a rough life with some sort of horrible unbearable experiences that destroyed him/her?
How would you look at that mother who gives away her children? Can you maybe feel her pain if her action was only to provide them with opportunities to live a better future which she cannot provide?
As I stated, each one of us has different perspectives about different situations and is based on who we truly are. It can be certain that most often what is good for me, can be bad for you.
In this light, before shooting out comments, one should seek the reason, look at all the possibilities while visualising the whole picture, show compassion and humility, put himself in the same position, listen and think, learn, be diplomatic and evaluate wisely without prejudice.
We should respect every human being despite the appearance as s/he may have a heart of gold and who knows? Maybe you would be the one to ask this person for help someday. Would you look at the face?
In my opinion, in most cases, the best solution is to help rather than judge and label others as in the end who are we to judge? We all make mistakes and no one is perfect. Remember that when you judge, you are always being judged.
Seek to find the weaknesses and also benevolence within yourself, enlighten your maturity and be a good example to humanity.
