EU Commission allocates 17 billion euros in EU funds for Ukrainian refugees
On Monday, April 4, the European Council adopted legislative amendments allowing member states to redirect funds from the Cohesion Policy Funds and the European Aids Fund for the Most Disadvantaged (FEAD) to support Ukrainian refugees, whose numbers have now risen to more than four million.
The European Council says that the 100 percent extension of funding, the release of the 2014-2020 extra-budgetary cohesion funds, and the 2022 React-EU 2022 tranche together are estimated to free up nearly 17 billion euros.
A statement from the Council of the EU said that the rapid amendment of the legislation on EU funds shows the EU’s clear and continued solidarity with refugees from Ukraine and member states, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
