Following a mask conflict, more than 100 Orthodox Jews were refused entry on a Lufthansa connecting aircraft.
Lufthansa, Germany’s flag carrier and largest airline, has apologised to several travellers who were denied boarding on their connecting flight from Frankfurt to Budapest.
The airline publicly apologized for the circumstances surrounding the decision to ban some passengers from the flight in a statement released on Twitter.
On May 4, a large number of booked passengers were denied boarding on their onward flight with LH 1334 from Frankfurt to Budapest. Lufthansa regrets the circumstances surrounding the decision to exclude the affected passenger from the flight, for which Lufthansa sincerely apologises,” the statement of Lufthansa reads.
The group was making an annual trip to Hungary to commemorate the death of a Jewish scholar. However, due to the fact that some of them were not wearing face masks, Lufthansa agents informed the entire group that they would be unable to board the flight for operational reasons.
The Orthodox Jews were praying on the day of the incident as the rest of the passengers boarded. When they arrived at the gate, the agents informed them that no additional passengers would be allowed on the flight.
Following the backlash, Lufthansa stated that they were evaluating the events of that day and apologised for the inconvenience and personal effect they had caused.
