Robert Abela’s first comments at Naxxar were that the result puts more responsibility on the Labour Party. “We must be humble and work to create prosperity for Maltese and Gozitans.” He said the Labour government would call for national unity and work in the national interest. “I thank you for your trust.”

Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech said that the PN would remain strong after the General elections and that he would seek a strong mandate to continue leading it. In a Facebook message, he thanked everyone who voted for the PN on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Labour supporters have been celebrating loudly across Malta after their party won its third consecutive general election.

The streets of Ħamrun and Naxxar were also stormed by enthusiastic PL supporters waving flags, honking horns and firing flares.
