Over the past two days, the National Audit Office (NAO) of Malta hosted bilateral meetings with the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia. The meetings served as an important platform for both SAIs to deepen institutional ties, exchange experiences, and strengthen cooperation in the field of public sector auditing.
On Wednesday, the Slovenian delegation – led by Ms Jana Ahčin, President of the Court of Audit of Slovenia, and accompanied by Mr Boštjan Novak, Advisor in the Cabinet of the President and Liaison Officer – was welcomed at the NAO by Auditor General Mr Charles Deguara, together with senior officials from the Office and Dr Rebecca Vassallo, Liaison Officer for International Affairs. In-depth discussions and presentations were held today between the Slovenian delegation and NAO officials. Today’s meeting was chaired by the Auditor General Mr Charles Deguara, with participation from the Deputy Auditor General Mr Noel Camilleri, Assistant Auditors General Mr Keith Mercieca and Mr William Peplow, and Dr Rebecca Vassallo, Liaison Officer for International Affairs.
Presentations delivered by both SAIs underscored their strategic priorities and innovative practices. NAO Malta shared its risk assessment framework for developing its annual programme of work, and its experience developing methodology with the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) and conducting audits on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) implementation. The Court of Audit of Slovenia presented on innovative approaches to enhancing cooperation with the public and the use of modern communication strategies in audit work. Discussions highlighted shared priorities including the application of organisational performance indicators, the process of drawing up annual reports, and bilateral cooperation particularly the agreement signed between the two national audit institutions in May 2018.
This bilateral engagement reaffirmed the spirit of friendship and collaboration between the two institutions and underscored NAO Malta’s commitment to fostering strong international partnerships and promoting excellence in public auditing.
