According to the NL Times, Defence Minister Kajsa Ollongren stated that Sweden and Finland may rely military protection from the Netherlands and other European nations throughout their NATO application process.
Sweden and Finland have agreed to formally apply for NATO membership, but both countries are concerned about the time it will take for them to become full members of the Alliance, particularly in light of Russia’s threats.
As Sweden and Finland are members of the European Union, “the European security guarantee applies anyway,” Ollongren stated earlier than the beginning of consultations together with her EU colleagues in Brussels.
They have obtained security guarantees from the United States, the United Kingdom, and other European nations, with the Netherlands indicating that it may provide naval support.
