To deal with the aftermath of the May 9 cyberattack, Rutube engaged the services of multiple professional teams, including a team of specialists from Positive Technologies’ security centre, according to the website’s Telegram channel.
“In order to investigate the attack and deal with its aftermath, several expert teams were involved, including a team of specialists from the Positive Technologies center. Positive Technologies experts have been working on this problem with Rutube employees for two days already,” the statement says.
“There is a lot of work, because Rutube infrastructure is rather large and complex, and we seek to find the entire set of hacker’s tools in all parts of Rutube, in order to block potential ways for the hackers to come back,” says Positive Technologies informational security response team head Denis Goydenko.
According to TASS, Rutube suffered “the strongest cyberattack” in its history on May 9. According to technical experts, the third party was unable to access either the video archive or the source code.
The attack affected about 75% of the main version’s databases and infrastructure, as well as up to 90% of backup copies. According to technical experts, the biggest issue is the restoration of the infrastructure, which involves hundreds of servers, each of which requires manual repair. Currently, the firm is not making any prediction on when the platform will be functional again.
