Tedros declared end of public health emergency

Director general of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus during a Virtual Press Meeting on May 5, 2023, stated “It is therefore with great hope that I declare COVID-19 over as a global health emergency.”
“For more than a year, the pandemic has been on a downward trend, with population immunity increasing from vaccination and infection, mortality decreasing and the pressure on health systems easing.” he said.
Yesterday, at the fifteenth meeting of the International Health Regulations (2005) Emergency Committee regarding the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, Tedros accepted the advice of the Committee where they recommended to declare an end to the public health emergency of international concern.
