The concept of a digital euro is still being pushed by the EU.

The ECB’s ( European Central Bank) CBDC testing phase will start in 2023, with the complete implementation scheduled for 2026, according to ECB executive board member Fabio Panetta, who was speaking at an event at the National College of Ireland. Prior to its widespread adoption, Member States will have three years to test the Digital Euro.

Panetta believes that if a digital euro supported by the ECB were accepted as legal cash in all EU member states ,the economy would benefit. Although just 20% of transactions now use cash, its implementation will not spell the death of cash.
