Josep Borrell, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has voiced concern over the situation in Libya.
“What occurred is very worrying, but it was expected,” Borrell said of the violent confrontations that broke out early Tuesday as the parallel government’s Prime Minister, Fathi Bashagha, attempted to enter Tripoli’s capital.
He also stated that the presence of two governments will inevitably lead to a conflict, and that they are constantly monitoring the situation in the country.
Following its intervention to cease the riots, the Ministry of Defense sent Brigade 444 to guard the streets of the capital, Tripoli. Meanwhile, the Tripoli Security Directorate has declared all highways leading to the Shatt Road open.
