United Nations Support Mission in Libya express their concerns

In a public statement The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is very concerned by violent clashes in Tripoli’s Janzour neighbourhood on the 15 May, which included indiscriminate shooting and the reported deployment of heavy weaponry. The ongoing buildup of forces linked to various armed organisations raises tensions and raises the potential of conflicts that might escalate into armed conflict.
Such occurrences emphasise the critical necessity to address the spread and usage of weapons not under governmental control. At this vital point in Libya’s history, the Mission urges all Libyan parties to preserve calm on the ground.
The Mission further urges all parties to display greatest moderation and address disputes via discussion. UNSMIL reminded the parties of their responsibilities to protect people, civilian infrastructure, and maintain public order.
