We reiterate our call for a law on reproductive health based on common sense and empathy – ADPD

ADPD-The Green Party Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo and Deputy Chairperson Sandra Gauci were among those who joined the protest in Valletta yesterday to call for laws based on common sense, empathy in issues of reproductive health, in the light of the traumatic saga of an American woman who is not receiving the necessary treatment due to outdated abortion laws.

ADPD-The Green Party insists that abortion is sometimes necessary to protect a woman’s health and therapeutic abortion should be accepted without further delay, in clear language and in black on white by Maltese law, to prevent outdated practices and dangerous situations. All this was underlined in the ADPD – The Green Party Electoral Manifesto for last March’s election.

“Most people accept abortion when it is necessary to protect a woman’s life. It is the duty of doctors to provide the best care to ensure a woman’s physical and mental health. It is clear that Maltese law is being used as an excuse to endanger women’s health at the state hospital.

It is unacceptable that in the year 2022 the state, Parliament, and ultimately doctors still refuse to do what is accepted all over the world to safeguard women’s health, risking patients’ health and lives, due to a fundamentalist attitude, without any empathy and sensitivity whatsoever.” ADPD-The Green Party
