Who is supporting the WHO pandemic treaty ?
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week called for reforming the World Health Organisation (WHO) and streamlining its approval process for vaccines and therapeutics, and favoured making flexible the WTO’s rules relating to trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights.
Modi also said that a coordinated global response is required to combat future health emergencies and called for building a resilient global supply chain for equitable access to vaccines and medicines in his speech at the second global virtual summit on Covid-19, which was hosted by US President Joe Biden.
On 30 March 2021 WHO called global leaders to work together “towards a new international treaty for pandemic preparedness and response” URGENT PANDEMIC TREATY.
November 29, 2021 the Canadian Press reported “Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos says Canada supports the drafting of a new worldwide convention on pandemic preparedness and response that will be considered at a special meeting of the World Health Assembly today,”
