China has decided to restrict visas for U.S. officials in response to U.S. visa restrictions on some Chinese officials, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said Thursday (March 31).
The United States restricted the visas of some Chinese officials because of their involvement in “repressive acts” against ethnic and religious minorities, Foreign Minister Antony Blinken said this month.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told a daily press briefing that Beijing had decided to also impose visa restrictions “to protect China’s sovereignty, security, and development interests and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese people.”
