Speaker Farrugia receives new Ambassador of Montenegro

Speaker of the House of Representatives Anġlu Farrugia received a courtesy call from Ms Milena Šofranac Ljubojević, Ambassador of Montenegro.​​
Speaker Farrugia recalled the excellent and cordial relations that exist between Malta and Montenegro, which were established diplomatically on 16 July 2006. He referred to his meeting with the former Montenegrin Speaker Ivan Brajovic, held in September 2018 on the margins of the 12th Conference of Presidents of Parliaments of Small European States held in Liechtenstein.
Speaker Farrugia and Ambassador Šofranac Ljubojević discussed issues of mutual interest, including the relations between the two parliaments and how to strengthen these relations through the Malta-Montenegro Parliamentary Friendship Group.
The two dignitaries discussed Montenegro’s relations with the EU, particularly its application for EU Membership. Speaker Farrugia reiterated Malta’s support to Montenegro’s EU perspective and expressed his encouragement to Montenegro to continue further on its path of reforms to accelerate its European prospects. Ambassador Šofranac Ljubojević emphasised the importance of the EU’s enlargement to include the Western Balkan countries.
Ms Milena Šofranac Ljubojević, Ambassador of Montenegro, was accompanied by Ms Jelena Burzan, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Montenegro in Rome.
